Redistricting Plans: Ohio

In Ohio, the legislature first attempts to approve the congressional redistricting plan by a supermajority. If the legislature fails, the congressional redistricting is conducted by a 7-member bipartisan commission. If the commission fails to adopt a plan, the congressional redistricting plan is conducted by the legislature which can approve a plan to be in effect for only two election cycles with just a majority vote. Ohio's state legislative redistricting plan is enacted by the 7-member bipartisan commission mentioned above. If at least two commissioners representing each party vote in favor of the adopted map, the plan will be in effect for the full decade. However, if the plan is passed on a party-line vote, the plan will be in effect for only two election cycles.
